The role of Hades is one of James Woods’ all-time favorites. He loved paying the role so much that any time Disney needs him to reprise the character (for cartoons such as Hercules: The Series and Disney’s House of Mouse, and video games such as The “Kingdom Hearts” series), he has agreed to do so.

Susan Egan, the voice of Meg in Hercules, played Belle in the original Broadway cast of Beauty and the Beast. 

When Hercules is having his portrait painted on an urn, he is wearing a lion’s skin. The skin turns out to be that of Scar from The Lion King.

The Spice Girls were considered for the roles of the Muses in Hercules.

Hades was scripted as a slow, menacing character until James Woods auditioned for the role and impressed the casting directors with his rapid-fire style. The script was rewritten, but Woods ad-libbed many lines of the lines that ended up in the film.

In Hercules,  at one point during “I Won’t Say I’m In Love”, the Muses imitate the singing busts from the Haunted Mansion.

Hercules directors John Musker and Ron Clements make a cameo early in the film, as Hercules pulls the hay wagon into the marketplace.
